About a month after the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, a consensus was reached in the four-party coalition government. Kiril Petkov, leader of the anti-corruption party We Keep the Change, presented the new government to Bulgarian President Ruman Radev for approval. The new government took office after a vote in the Bulgarian parliament on Monday. In Bulgaria, a European Union country, a non-provisional government is taking office for the first time since April, after three parliamentary elections. “The motto of our coalition will be zero tolerance for corruption“, said Petkov, the country’s future Prime Minister. Petkov-led, We Keep the Change party, won 25 per cent of the votes in the November 14 elections. The Bulgarian Socialist Party with 10 per cent of the votes, the populist Party of Such a People with 9 per cent, and the centre-right Democratic Alliance for Bulgaria with 6 per cent of the votes are other partners of the coalition government. Petkov stated that the four-party coalition government will serve for a period of 4 years. In addition to judicial reform and the fight against corruption, the rise in energy prices and the fight against the coronavirus crisis are among the priorities of the government.
“Today is an important day to continue the change – in thinking and in government. Our first task is to realize that if we want a better future for Bulgaria, we must work together”, said Prime Minister-designate Kiril Petkov in a speech to parliament. The main priorities are to avoid increasing the price of electricity for household consumers and to reduce that for businesses. According to him, the Greek connection should become a top priority. “We can’t wait for the next wave of the next variant to hit the economy and schools. One option is to close our eyes to the facts of science and remove green certificates. The other is vaccination – 3.6 billion people worldwide have been vaccinated. My first order – everyone should have a green certificate in the Council of Ministers “, added Kiril Petkov.
